Since 2009 there have been 400 infringement notices issued totalling $30,000 collected from motorists who have ignored bus lane rules. Illegal use of a bus lane has been described by the Bay Of Plenty Times as a “moving violation” and, in 2009, non-police have been given the opportunity to enforce these rules.
